Enchanted by music...
I read the other day a phrase that is now stuck in my head. ‘Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life’- Red Auerbach. So simple yet so true. I got inspired….
I still remember how in one of my articles ( Counting Sheep, please don't!) I mentioned the importance of sleep and how vital it is for us in order to survive. Well, here I am now thinking, could I add the word music to that list?
The power and the effect of music are well known. We have (I’m quite sure) experienced, to a certain extent, the magic behind music. It simply stimulates our senses, bringing emotions and memories of all kinds. It is the soundtrack of our lives.
It is not hard to understand why music has become reasonably popular as a way of therapy; its interventions can be designed to:
In a very beautiful book about happiness, I once read ‘Whenever you feel low, even if it is hard at first, try singing your favourite tune out loud, on and on until you notice how the chemistry in your brain changes. You will feel better, that I promise.’
I did it and I do it now, that tip made my aware of my view about music. I am not just talking about listening to a song, but singing it as well!
Here my experience….
I have recently moved to a different city and having been always involved with choirs, it made me want to do no different this time, so I joined a gospel group, which I must say I am very proud of. I did it for a number of reasons: I wanted to meet local people, have a hobby I knew I’ve always enjoyed, learn a new language, but most and for all be involved in something that as I first mentioned in this article could wash away from my soul the dust of everyday life. The dust of my worries, insecurities and those funny moments were you seem to question everything. I wanted to have something to change my frequency with.
Was the phrase I read and my experience proving it right, that got me writing about this now? Even if I take the risk of not teaching you anything new – it works with me just as magic would.
No matter how I feel when I enter the place, during those 2 hours of rehearsal I repeat to myself just sing. If I’m happy I leave extra happy! If I’m not I know that at least during that moment I have changed AM to FM on my “radio”. I am not the female version of Pavarotti, and it really doesn’t matter, the sound the lyrics, they work as an enchantment….
You might not like singing, but just as surrounding yourself with colours, helps to balance, when you surround yourself with music, you fly away to a safe place where you can be just you and recharge.
I have just added music to my list…
Have a musical week!!
